So, I've Been Using the Iphone for Pictures

So that is why they are not so good - but boy is it convenient.

The day started out grim. Never leave tasks till the morning before you have to head out somewhere. Nope - not a good idea. Cyp was filling in an application and I was trying to make fruit salad. Ellis was in fine form and just before we headed out he chucked a slightly hard toy at me. Ouch.

The drive didn't get much better. Did I actually say I liked the GPS? I hate it. I wanted to chuck it like Ellis chucked the toy at me. Out the window. Out.

We found the Christmas party thanks to Iphone and good email instructions. Phew. It was in a really nice park to the north of the city. This party was a group of families that seem to comprised of mostly British Expats (although there is one family from Montreal). I met the organizer - Ketrina - at the State Library Children's Corner. She has a baby named Ellis. That may be why I got the invite. Anyway - they seem like a great group. Everyone I talked to was really nice. One family got here about 3.5 months ago. Husband works at UQ and cycles from about where the park is - 21Km each way. He said it only takes 45 minutes. Yah - he looked fit - that is like cycling from Richmond to UBC (with much bigger hills and in the heat). The other great thing about the group is that almost every family was comprised of two children - about the same ages as Ellis and Rowan. We did Secret Santa and Ellis got a great floor alphabet puzzle. The present I got seemed to go over well too. We all had a really good time. As we were leaving Cyp said "I'm in a much better mood than before we got here."

Still didn't feel very Christmassy though.

Headed to Cyp's office to get a printer and mercifully, Ellis fell asleep on the drive home. Took the opportunity to drive around and around. I am getting a better idea of how this bizarre city is laid out - but now that I've sort of decided which areas I like, there do not seem to be places for rent. Go figure. Our landlady thinks we can extend our apartment if we have to.

I did not feel like making dinner so we finally checked out the fish and chip place near our apartment. It was fabulous. Should have checked it out a long time ago. Apparently the best fish and chips in the city. Rowan mowed down the fish. Ellis, the chips.

Afterward we went for a walk - nice. We never do this as it's usually dinner, clean up and bed. Made me again realize what a nice location we are in right now - trying to enjoy it and not stress about getting another place. New place will be good as it will have our stuff and more space, but it won't have the fabulous river right outside our door.
