As both kids were the picture of health this morning (that was the fasted stomach flu on record) Ellis got to go to school. I think Rowan just likes going for the drive - I do believe he is getting a tad bored of everyone else playing the Wii. So in our usual way, it was a mad panic to get out the door - I had started to do our taxes (I think they are as about as complicated as they can get this year) when I got up this morning so got a little behind in the getting out the door process.
After I dropped El and Cyp off, I decided to find a close Aldi store. Essentially, this is the closest thing I can find to Costco here. Unfortunately, I forgot that it is rush hour and so did the stupid GPS as it took me along the main artery into the city. Sigh. I finally found Aldi and strapped Rowan into the shopping cart and off we went. I figure I have a good 3o minutes before Rowan starts to melt down. It was great - I got to peruse the aisles. The reason why it's like Costco is that they have things one week but not the next and they are usually on super special.
Today I got some felt play things for Ellis and picked up some more bath instruments like the one Em has - I got the drums and the flutes. Plus I got a great car kit with fuzzy dice (that look like the Australian flag), 2 Aussie flags and a windshield screen to keep out the sun. Ok - I only got it for the screen, but he dice and flags were a bonus. We can put them on mom and dad's rental car. I also picked up children's flossers for $1.99 (20 - in cute little sea creature shapes - Susie should like that) and a sticker book. Oh and easter candy. It is made in Germany specifically for Aldi - we shall see if it is any good. I'm sure Ellis won't have a problem with it.
The other great thing about Aldi is that it is small. If you forget something in one aisle, you don't have to trek a km to go back and get it. In that way it's better than Costco. It was meant for the indecisive shopper like me.
Rowan and I headed home and discovered that Ashgrove is really very close to Toowong - yay. I also realized that I still don't know how to navigate the traffic circle near our house. Almost got in an accident, but fortunately other person did not hit me. I may have finally figured out what lane I need to be in. I think. I was in the turn left lane but went straight.
I decided to play Wii for a bit as Ellis was not here. However, having said that, he is really very good about letting others play. He likes to watch. If we even try to start up the game after he is in bed, he hears it and has to come out to watch. He just sits in the green chair quietly hoping that we won't notice. Sometimes he sneaks out two hours after we've put him to bed.
I played for a while, but then Rowan started to get underfoot (I guess he was feeling neglected) so I made us lunch.
Tried to make Barb's stoopid good cake mix cookies, but I guess Australian cake mix is different and got stoopid good chocolate soup instead. I added some more stuff - maybe the kids that are coming for a playdate tomorrow will eat them. Ellis attempted one after dinner but I got to finish it. Hmm. He doesn't like Rowan's bday cake either. Note - if you don't want your kid to eat too much cake, put coffee flavoured icing on it.
