The kids did well together - well, most of them did well - Ellis had breakdowns when they touched the things he was playing with so I just told him to go play Reading Eggs - kinda defeats the purpose of a playdate but oh well. Rowan played and the mums got to talk. Granita ended up minding the kids - yay Granita. They ran downstairs and were riding back and forth on Ellis's tricycle (at least someone uses it). The kids were younger (2ish) and they seemed to have no problem steering. Ellis has gotten better since we got Mariocart for the Wii, but still he is not stellar. It just doesn't interest him. Rowan seems a tad more inclined to be sporty. Heck - I was not very coordinated as a kid - I used to run into people on my bike, I guess Ellis got his lack of coordination from me. Although it's all relative I guess - he seems better at ball sports - I just can't picture him doing Aussie Football though (which Cyp forced us to watch one night - the State of Origin - Queensland beat those NSWers - yay). You hear that AFL is really rough, but it is actually quite civilized. The tackles seem almost polite - "um, pardon me, but I'm going to take you out - do you mind?" "oh - that's quite all right, I'll help you by falling over." So I guess it was good to watch it in a way as it dispelled the thoughts I had about it.
The playdate went well - again, I think Granita bore the brunt of it. She felt she had to pay attention to the kids so they didn't kill themselves.
"I'm too old for this." she said just after the mums and kids left.
We hung around and recovered in the afternoon - then I got the call that our car was ready to be picked up so I threw the kids into the rental car and drove like a demon to first get Cyp then across town to get our car. The traffic was horrendous and made me glad we don't have to commute.
