Renee Buys Too Much Again

Daycare day again (that was fast). This time I was more upfront with Ellis and told him it was a school day. He didn't seem pleased, so I had to do a bit of cajoling. As a result, although we were up early this morning 5:30 - we still didn't make it out of the house until about 8:45.

Ellis actually dutifully walked to school without me having to bribe or threaten, so I was pretty happy. When we got there he turned to me with teary eyes and said "you'll be back at 4:00 - right?" and then he walked forlornly off to one of the school helpers (who was sitting listening to story time with the other kids in his class - seems most people are probably there by 9 - not like us stragglers) and proceeded to sit in her lap, while trying not to cry. I don't think he wanted to cry in front of the other kids so was trying to hold it together. Now that almost broke my heart, but I left. Our walk over was a long discussion about how you have to give some things a chance and maybe part of that discussion sank in.

Rowan and I left and I decided I would try to take the bus to New Farm. So I got out my handy iphone and looked up the bus route on their translink site and I actually figured out where to go. Just as I neared the stop, the bus pulled up. I got on without incident and even managed to get off at the right stop without incident. I was so excited about my success using the bus (and my iphone) that I proceeded to buy too many things at the store and had to lug them home. Diapers were on special - 2 packs for $48 or 130 diapers for $48 - about $0.37 per diaper - a bargain! Up till now, I've been averaging $.50 per diaper and so every time I change Ellis and Rowan I say to myself - there goes another dollar! It's quite painful. I would feel less saddened if the money was actually going to cover some of the environmental costs of the diaper, but that is just wishful thinking - it's just going to the profits of the diaper company. I should invest. Darn diaper companies should have to pay to clean up some landfills or something - maybe that would spur them on to developing a more biodegradable diaper that doesn't use plastic. Yes, I know - those are called cloth. There is not a lot of water in Australia, so they actually prefer if people use disposable (or so Cyp told me).

Ok - enough about that.

Got home - went for a swim - got back, was nursing Rowan when our buzzer rang. Our stroller is here, our stroller is here!!!!!

AND I WAS HERE TO GET IT! HOORAY - MY LUCKY DAY!

Said stroller is now put together - Ellis will be very excited to see it when I go and pick him up today.

  2. Funny... when I was a kid I could NOT WAIT to get away from my family. The morning of pre-school I was up and ready with my shoes on raring to go. I think I was the only kid who did not cry when their parents dropped them off! I even told my mother not to linger at the classroom window and leave... foreshadowing of things to come! So take it as a bonus that Ellis cried!
