I could put up some boring pictures of downtown - but they are on flickr and this picture just makes me happy. Is it the almost full glass of wine or the cute kids - it's a toss up.
I woke up grumpy this morning - Cyp had man flu. Great. He'd also forgotten his wallet at work. Sigh. That kinda put a kibosh on his going to get my new iphone (which he was supposed to do last night after kids were in bed, but as noted, he had man flu). I decided to abandon ship and go to the market without him and Ellis so set off.
I took the old ferry downtown (I wanted to get a cooler bag before going to market) and got caught in a squall. The ferryman parked us in a new spot (under cover) as it was raining. I was whipping my head back and forth saying to myself "where is he going?" when another passenger noted my surprise and said - "oh, he's just parking at this dock as it is undercover."
"they'd never do that in Canada" I said. He was surprised - aren't Canadians nice? "yes, they're nice" I said "they are also rule followers"
Anyway, I disembarked only to be thwarted. I was no longer near the ramp route that I knew and had to go wheeling all over the place with Rowan to get up to the street I knew. Thanks a lot ferry man. It gave me a new appreciation for people in wheelchairs and made me think of when Gaby had to live in a wheelchair cause of her leg.
I thought of that a lot today as I trekked through the malls (I ended up exploring downtown and skipping the market). Their malls are not set up for people with strollers or wheelchairs. Normally, I would just say #*$&%^ it and take the escalator but somehow I feel hesitant doing that in foreign country. If something happened, I would tarnish the name of my fellow Canadians.
In my journey today I discovered something - Woolworths (which sells food) is cheaper than Coles and Target. Woolworths may be my new store.
I came home and then Cyp had his shift out and he went and got my iphone-yay (he found his wallet - he had put it away in his man flu delirium)
Today we had our picnic with our new Vancouverite friends. Turns out they are both geological engineers and had to come to Australia to get jobs - Oh, I thought they were extending their visa cause they liked it here. Nope - jobs not great in Canada.
We had a great time (Ellis finally warmed up to their kids about 10 minutes before we had to leave - but maybe next time...) - oh and we saw a kookabura (that's the bird I thought was a monkey - in fact, they use it's song in movies and soundtracks if they need monkey sounds).
We also learned a lot about the bad things in Australia - I hope Ellis doesn't have nightmares about sharks and spiders tonight. There was an article about funnel web spiders in the paper - their mating season begins soon......ick
