Sunday was overcast - Cyp said it had poured in the middle of the night, but I'm sleeping great and didn't hear it. We decided to walk to Southbank as it was cooler and I wanted to get a sense of what it was like to walk along the river.
We headed out - Cyp was right, there are playgrounds all over the place here. After a requisite stop, we started walking again - we went past the Kangaroo Point cliffs (about 10 minutes from us) where people practice their rock climbing skills.
They have giant red men standing around exercising along this stretch of the walk. Ellis had to stand by every one of them.
At one point I went into a kayak rental place. I asked the woman behind the desk why people have pokey things sticking out of the top of their helmets (a la Hellraiser). People tend to put snap fasteners on = 10 or so that stick right up in the air.
"those are for the Magpies" she said. I guess Magpies attack and some cyclists think the sticky uppy things protect them.
"I was actually attacked by a Magpie as a girl - they go for the eyes - see my scar?" she said. "The sticky uppy things don't help" she said.
right - birds are bad here too.
We continued on our way - Ellis outlasts me and I was bugging Cyp to check his iphone for the nearest coffee place. We found one (and fortunately it was attached to an outside food court). I got a crepe and Cyp got fish and chips. Mine was better. We were stalked by the Ibis (Brisbane's answer to the Canada goose). Rowan loves the birds and is always angling to get a better look.
We then hit the Wheel of Brisbane. Ellis had been going on about the wheel since he saw it. We were coaching him on his age
"Ellis - when someone asks you how old you are say goo goo ga ga"
"I"M THREE" he would respond. or "I'M ALMOST FOUR"
"no no, we would say - you're two, ok?"
The ferris wheel was $9 for children 3 to 12 and $2 for under three.
Turns out he didn't have to lie as the internet was wrong - the wheel was $2 for children aged 1 to 3. Phew.
After we got on, I wondered why I had volunteered. I don't like heights. Too late.
"how many times do you think this goes around?" I asked.
"oh, probably 12, should we try rocking it?" said evil Cyp.
"STOP MOVING!" I said. now where was that emergency button.....
It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be and we made it safely down
"now the water park" said the boy who wouldn't
