Sigh - Monday Again

Happy Birthday Barb

Today Cyp woke up and couldn't take it anymore - he decided he needed to go find a doctor to get antibiotics. I hadn't made plans - So Ellis, Rowan and I sat around most of the morning trying to figure out what we would do today. We also decided to wait until opportune time to contact Anita, Max and Suzy - all of whom would be enjoying Sunday dinner. Of course, internet was crappy again.

I was going bonkers again so decided to abandon internet (it doesn't seem to work in the day - maybe cause everyone else is using it) and convinced Ellis that we had to go get a cake for daddy's birthday tomorrow.

So we headed out - We made it as far as across the river. We were exiting the pier (the pier I can't stand as it has a crappy gate halfway up that is very hard to maneuver through with Bob) when someone kindly held the gate open for Ellis. Well, that was it. He wanted to do it. Breakdown city.

"Ellis - they were just trying to be polite, you can do it next time - alright, shall we go home right now"

"yes" said Ellis, who promptly turned and went back through the gate, down the plank to catch the next ferry.

Darn - that backfired.

"Ellis, daddy will be very disappointed if he doesn't get cake or present for his birthday."

"let's go home."

"Ellis, if we don't go get daddy a cake, he will be very sad as no one else is going to"

"let's go home"

"Ellis, if we go home, I'm calling the babysitter, leaving you with said babysitter and then Rowan and I are going to come back and get daddy a present."

"ok - let's go get daddy a present."

OK! LET'S GO!

We marched up Queen Street to the mall where I promptly spent too much money as it is impossible to shop around with kids. Ellis did very well after the initial incident and followed me all around and up and round and round and up till we'd finally finished finding presents and a cake (I stole that bit from Mr. Men - the up and round part - it is from Mr. Happy and I seem to read it every other night when it is my turn to do bedtime stories).

As an aside here, all the books I read about Australia (ok, one book) mentioned how unhelpful the Aussie service people are. That is not true. Every time I turned around in Myers (Aussie Bay) there was someone there to help me. The other odd thing I noticed was that the stores were absolutely jam packed today - 2 pm on a Monday. Packed.

Ok - errands done and Ellis was tired - so stroller swap time. Rowan in sling, Ellis in stroller. Rowan has this uncanny ability to make himself heavier, he leans down with his head somehow - it's weird. Pretty soon, both kids were asleep and I was slowly plodding my way back to the ferry. Cyp wants me to get a double stroller, but I'm stubborn. I can manage. I wish I could see what it looked like though. I don't get many looks here though - 2 kids is for amateurs - most people have 3 or 4. I guess that is why they are so helpful and understanding.

Made it home - Ellis kept sleeping - good and bad - good, time to myself, bad - 30 minutes to 1 hour tantrum post nap, pre dinner. I will admit, I provoked him a bit - I kept singing his song. I can't help it - his songs are the only songs left in my head after listening to them again and again and again in Hawaii. Oh well.

"if you need a friend, you know what to do, you can call on me, cause I'm the number two, one day at the beach, the next at the zoo, you can count on me, cause I'm the number two....."

watched Aussie TV again. Comedy/news show - one thing I noted, they don't care about being politically correct here.
