Second Full Day on Fraser

Second Full Day on Fraser

It poured during the night. It was still pouring in the morning. Dad went to do reconiscance for the days planned activities. He came back with lots of maps.

The plan was to go across the island to Kingfisher resort, perhaps stop at Birrabeen Lake on the way (the lest touristy lake) and stop at McKenzie Lake on the way back.

We headed out. I noted it was 9:30 - bang on schedule. Doesn't matter if we try to hurry or slowly get ready - 9:30 seems to be our time of departure every day. Why do I stress about getting ready?

We had to take the inland track and it was very jouncy. I think there are parts of me still rattling two days later. The island certainly looked different inland - big trees. It was pouring and you squinted a little, it felt like we were driving on a logging road in BC.

We made it to Kingfisher resort and took turns using our sun umbrella (lucky thing we got it in Mooloolaba) to check out the swimming pools that were surrounded by the bar. Man - if it had been a nice day we could all imagine sitting drinking a beer while Ellis and Rowan played. The pools were perfect for kids.

We then checked out the store and then I wanted to run and see the main lobby to the resort so I ran off quickly.

I happened to look at my phone when I got inside and noticed that I had service - yay! I quickly checked my email and noted one from the bank. Apparently I had changed my personal details recently. Uh - no. So I had to call. Meanwhile, I was hopping from foot to foot getting antsy as I'd been gone a while. I ran back to the truck - not there - ran back to the lodge and found mom - she was sent to find me after they had driven to reception - I guess we crossed paths.

When we were on the road again I mentioned that I had gotten all my mail. Cyp was seething in the back.

We drove onto MacKenzie Lake as it was closer. There were workman there building something - not sure what. Ellis had been whining for the past 2 km (which took almost an hour on that road) that he was hungry. We were told we couldn't eat anywhere in the vicinity because of dingos. Oh. We got special dispensation to eat in our truck.

We then stepped out into the pouring rain (in our bathing suits) and walked ran to the lake which was packed with tourists. Apparently, the day before, you had to wait 30 minutes to park and then you only got a certain amount of time at the lake. So the rain was good for something.

Actually - it wasn't too packed and we took both kids into the lake. I hope Rowan does not get pneumonia. I decided it was colder outside standing in the wind and rain than it was in the water. The lake was beautiful - turquoise blue water and white sand. It seems everyone else there was from Canada.

We then drove to the other Lake - took the rest of the day - We were the only ones at this lake and I think it was just about as nice - it wasn't as easy to swim in as it stayed shallower for longer but it was very pretty and there was no one there.

We then drove (jounced and bounced) home. It was around 3 pm. We had left at 9:30, pretty much driven all day and only gone about 30 km. That tells you something about the road conditions. Both kids are really pretty amazing as Rowan only started to scream on the last leg. We could usually placate him with singing, but this sometimes made the other one scream - "NOT THAT ONE _ I DON"T LIKE THAT ONE." We were basically safe if we sang a song with numbers in it. 99 bottles of beer, 10 Monkeys on the bed, 10 in the bed (Roll over roll over) or 5 Green and speckled frogs.

That night we made easy dinner - ham and filled pasta. Yay. Should do that every night - kids like it best.

I crashed early again. In my almost asleep haze I heard mom and Cyp go out for a late night beach walk. After the first day we got there, that was pretty much the last time I set foot on our beach - one day I will be able to escape Rowan.
