I've added pictures to some of my previous travel posts now that I'm home and we have internet againThe Town of 1770
When we woke up this morning, I thought - I'd like to come here and stay a week. It seems very relaxing to lie in the hammock just out your door with a view of the bay.
We got one day of travel respite though while we figured out what to do in the Town of 1770 (pop 53). We had one last look for the phone and the cables - neither of which could be found. We have come to the conclusion that the phone and cables were stolen out of the truck that we left unlocked at our beach house on Fraser Island. Cyp is positive he had shoved the cables (for charging our phone and GPS in the car) into the truck glovebox and I do remember him doing it. We would certainly have noticed if the cables fell out onto the sand and dad can sort of remember thinking about putting the phone in the glovebox, but he can't say for sure. Cyp recalls seeing a girl in her 20s speedwalking away when he went out the door of our beach house one day. So - that is what we decided - none of liked to talk about it too much as it is a pain losing things, but oh well.
Dad trotted off to find out things to do here and came back with two options - a day long boat trip to the reef and a LARC tour (one of those amphibious trucks). I went back with dad to find out more and decided that both would work - we would go for a sunset LARC tour that day (only an hour) and the trip to the reef the next day. The boat trip to the reef would take 1.5 hours - but I figured I could entertain Rowan that long and Ellis had his leapster. When we got to the reef, there were glass bottom boats, an island (where they let you off to take a walking tour), lunch, a big pontoon to dive/snorkel from and a fish viewing area off the pontoon - it sounded like enough to keep the kids entertained.
We came back after booking those and I stayed behind while everyone else went to the beach. Rowan mercifully napped and I started in on my blog posts. After Cyp had been running in and out for about an hour to collect things for the beach - mom and dad walked back in
"what now?"
"uh - Cyp just backed into someone."
right. "i'm not coming out - he can deal with it." such a supportive wife I am. I'll sit here in denial and stare at the ocean.
I did that for about 30 minutes and then ran out to see if I could see how much damage. The other car didn't look too bad - door panel dented and our back bumper has some chips in the paint. Later on we realized that one of them - the extremely irate dad or son had kicked in the side of one of our doors. That is a pain. I found out insurance should cover it and our premium does not go up so that it good. Now we just have to deal with it when we get home.
Every time we got in the car after that Ellis would chime in:
"Cyprien is only allowed to drive straight from now on."
They finally left for the beach and I blogged in between feeling depressed about car and stolen phone.
We hung around for the rest of the afternoon and then went on the LARC tour - They are these big trucks that go on the sand and into the ocean like a boat. It was pretty fun and the guys talking on the boat/car were pretty entertaining as well - we saw actual kangaroos in the wild and learned that it is the soldier crabs that make the millions of little round balls that one sees on the sand. Both kids seemed to like it as well - it was especially fun driving off the steep sand bank into the ocean. Yee ha.
