Trip to Rainbow Beach

I woke feeling fairly blick with a sweaty groggy rough looking Rowan who was screaming his head off. Ellis came out "you woke me up!"

I forgot to mention that the other reason I didn't sleep well was because I got an SMS from the property managers saying that we were in rent arrears. Great. I managed to get through to our bank in the morning. Our cheque is somewhere - bank couldn't tell me where. Finally at 8:30 I could phone the property managers - it appears two cheques are missing. Double great. Oh well, at least I discovered I could pay the rent with Mastercard. Problem solved.

After that things were looking up a bit. We headed out to Noosa National Park (or part of it anyway). It's really quite lovely up here. We hauled the strollers out and went for a three km walk along the outer edge of the coast. It reminded me of Long Beach, the Oregon coast and Hawaii. We even saw a koala! a real one! We stopped at a beach on the way back and Ellis went nudie while mom looked in tide pools but didn't see much.

Rowan slept the entire way - poor little guy - sporting a fever in this heat. He is a real mess.

As mom went to get the lunch out of the car, I noticed a couple standing near me. Hey - same people that we met at the Bot garden in Brizzy. How funny is that.

After lunch we did one last tour of Noosa, got a few groceries and then headed to Rainbow Beach. The kids slept the entire way and we got here around 3:30 where we found that we had reserved a really nice 3 bedroom condo with a great view. I kinda feel like we are living in Miami Vice. I turned on the TV to see what was on and found Sponge Bob - Ellis parked himself on the sofa and the look of happiness on his face was really quite something. Pretty much as soon as we got into the car to go on the trip he has been saying:

"I wanna go hooooooome." Yes - I can remember being dragged around in the car and then going for interminable walks with my parents. It was boring!

So - he basically didn't move from Sponge Bob - it seemed to be an all Sponge Bob all the time channel. Ellis was in heaven.

I think we were all feeling pretty beat up from the trip (it's a lot of work traveling with the boys) - It was only about 3:30 but mom and dad had already cracked open the wine. So - Cyp and I soon joined them. We downed our drinks quickly and then headed to the beach....

Just as an aside - there has been a lot of talk of lowering the blood alcohol limit for drunk driving. Currently it is sitting at .05. They have been reporting on what this means in real terms. It means that a woman can have one drink - a man, maybe one and a half. So I figure I'm still safe to drive after my drink.

The beach was pretty nice - I keep asking Cyp to compare it to Byron Bay in New South Wales. He keeps saying "not quite as nice"

It was pretty fantastic though - we were there just before sunset - the lifeguards were hauling in the flags but there were still lots of people playing in the water. We wondered why we could swim here yet not on Fraser Island which we can see (can't swim on Fraser Island because of sharks). Cyp said - "see those floats (about 300 metres out)? I think it's a shark net." I didn't hear this as I was already swimming, but mom and dad scoffed.

Dad wasn't swimming so he found a lady on the beach to grill about the area. She told him they were shark nets. Cyp was vindicated. The nets stretch the entire bay and fortunately come in at the corners. Apparently, they do not always do that so sharky can just swim around.

After playing in the water, we went and got a few more supplies for Fraser Island and then got chinese takeout.

The takeout was good - even the noodles that I had dropped on the floor (bag broke).

There is no internet here, so I have been writing my blog posts but will have to post later.
