It started out at the Science Centre and only got better - a birthday party (with a table loaded with party food) with clowns. The clowns were pretty popular. This was our conversation on the way home:
Ellis: Mummy - did you have the same hair when you were a kid?
Me: Pretty much - it's always been dark - but daddy's was blonde like yours. Yours will probably turn brown when you get older.
Ellis: I don't want it to... I like my light hair.
Me: Well - you can dye it - people colour their hair.
Ellis: I will colour mine green.
Pause.... Me: Uh - they don't make green hair colour (lying through my teeth - then I twig)
Me: you know the clown's hair was a wig - it was fake.
Ellis: How come?
Me: it was part of his costume.
Ellis: Where did he get it?
Me: At the clown store.
Ellis - When I be an adult, I'm going to be a clown. (he liked the magic - so did I, it was pretty good).
Ellis: I will tell other adults where the clown store is (so everyone can be a clown I guess).
His night continued in a good vein - his favourite parts of the day - the party with the clowns and peeing in the bath.
