Ok - it may be beautiful and sunny but it is getting darn cold at night. I think it is going down to about 13 celsius at night - I don't think we ever turned our heat down that low, plus living in a Queenslander is kinda like living outside. There is no insulation and you can see through the cracks in the floor to outside. Brrr. We may have to haul out the sleeping bags to watch TV. Granita puts on her winter coat. I keep looking for the thermostat but there is none. It doesn't help that Rowan likes to kick the blankets off.
We went to the GOMA (Ellis's pick) and they have a new installation. We decided to skip the paid exhibit (lifelike sculptures by Ron Mueck) and go to the slightly scary Noir New Zealand. Quite a change from the last exhibit that was light and bright. At this one we sat in dark rooms and watched odd and scary animation. I wonder if Ellis will have nightmares. There weren't as many kid friendly exhibits I guess because summer hols are over - Ellis seemed perhaps a tad disappointed. At least the room of string is still there. They did have two rooms set aside for 40 works of art done by kids from state schools (highschool) - pretty amazing - actually and I liked it better than a lot of other art I've seen. Made me think back to the artists at my highschool - there were a lot of talented people that gave up art to do something practical (ooh - I'll probably get slammed by that comment - I mean a job that you can earn a living from).
Afterwards we did a brief tour of the art museum (Ellis made another hat) and then hit the waterpark. BRRR again! Rowan was sleeping which was probably a good thing as he still has a cold from when G. & G. were here. hmmm. Ellis ran around like a maniac maybe hoping that would help him warm up? I finally suggested he might want to get out and he agreed.
"I'm cooooooooooold."
I guess he would have suffered it out all day if someone hadn't suggested he could get out.
We stopped at Woolies on the way home -had to pick up a cake mix for Granita's birthday on Saturday. Ellis had lots of suggestions on how to decorate it - we got smarties. I made prosciutto and apple wrapped roast pork - would have been better if I'd cooked it longer but still yummy. Cyp is in Sydney overnight so we had an early dinner without him. Kids were asleep by 8 so it looked like we could get a bit of TV viewing in but it was Granita's turn to fall asleep on the couch - hah rookie I thought but I went to console Rowan for a few minutes and fell asleep myself. It is now 1:30 am and I'm freezing my toes off. Should go back to bed I guess although I note Tracey is up. Could try chatting, but my toes my end up needing to be amputated if I don't go crawl back into bed.....
the lack of insulation makes Aus houses BRUTALLY cold, i agree. crazy people. who knew parkas were necessary in QLD?
