That's who I live with these days and they live with Big Miss Grumpy. Cyp left for Vancouver on Monday for a week so in my spare moments I try to recover in front of the TV - I'm feeling pretty proud of myself for keeping to my usual daily alcohol intake - it is tempting to start drinking at about 8 am, but so far I've resisted. I did steal Ellis's remaining Easter chocolate and that is helping. Let's just say - Ellis has been getting in a lot of computer and TV time. It's all good until his blood sugar drops from lack of eating - I must remember to feed him at periodic points throughout the day. It is slightly odd being here alone with the boys - not to be too morbid, but we could disappear (drive into the river by accident say) and no one would notice for while. I kinda wonder what we are doing here besides figuring out what to eat every day and doing laundry. Is there a point to all this? Did I have to move to Australia to do laundry?
We have been getting out a bit - we revisited Funkee Monkeys on Tuesday, Wednesday was swimming and friends came over in the afternoon for a playdate.
Yesterday it was decorate a cupcake for mothers day in the mall (oh right - not the mall - the "village"). First 200 kids got a free hat and apron. I think Ellis looks pretty cute in his and fortunately, we were in the right spot in line to get a blue one - phew that was lucky. Some insanity on my part decided that this would be something good for us to do - a free cupcake after all. It was mostly good - I met one mom from Seattle (in line behind me) and one from New York (in front of us). Again, they both made comments about how it was funny that their kids have Aussie accents and again I said "well, so do you." which again got ignored. It appears people do not like getting Aussie accents. Both moms had been here a while though.
The people organizing the decorate a cupcake event were very friendly, but extremely slow. They had one person seating the kids and she felt the need to have a two minute conversation with every person she seated. She was also the person that boxed up the cupcake at the end - she was a major bottleneck. Fortunately, me being me got us there good and early so we were at the front of the line. Ellis loved it and wanted to carry the cupcake in the little chinese takeout box around for the rest of the day. I made him put it in the fridge.
I attempted the park after that, but it wasn't good - Rowan was in need of a nap and he and Ellis went in opposite directions. I remember Sue mentioning her horrible time at Science World when she took Esme and Ava shortly after Ava had started walking - "never again" I believe I'm at that stage now. I was starting to despair when I remembered that Rowan likes wood chips which covered the playground so I set him up in the general vicinity of Ellis and managed to keep an eye on both of them. By the end of parktime, Rowan was covered head to foot in brown crud. Oh well.
We came home and I set Ellis up in front of the computer and then got Rowan to nap - yay! Then I took a sanity break and read my book and let Ellis watch more TV. When Rowan woke up we headed to the post office to get a parcel - I had never been to this post office before and we got lost. Yay again - I don't mind driving around - it kills time till happy hour.
It was still a tad early for happy hour though and I needed to tire the kids out a bit so I took them to another playground. They had a locked sandpit at this one. Worked well. Actually, it was a really nice afternoon - there were lots of kids at the park and Ellis sort of attached himself to some of them - amazing.
We came back home and I somehow blew a fuse in the kitchen - couldn't find the fusebox anywhere and it was getting dark fast. Thankfully, neighbour/landlord Sue was home and showed me where it was (outside). I then created a weird dinner that I only managed to get Ellis to eat by reminding him of the cupcake that was awaiting him in the fridge.
I had some chicken/mushroom ravioli that I created the sauce for - mushrooms, white wine, cream cheese and chinese greens. I thought it was yummy. The kids, not so much.
Bathtime was next - I filled it up really full and left them in for about 45 minutes till they were done. Rowan was a pain at storytime and kept trying to bite and headbutt Ellis. Ellis did his usual - I'm not going to bed and you can't make me - I realize I can't, so I just left him in his room with his light on - as long as he stays in there, it's all good. So far he hasn't said - "you can't make me stay in my room." cause actually I can - he still can't reach the door handle. Heh.
I then watched a bit of TV - but Rowan was a pain so I tried to put him to bed. Of course, I fell asleep too - that always happens. We slept terribly - the nights have cooled down and I kept trying to cover Rowan but he kept kicking off the blankets - I must remember to put jammies on him tonight. Fortunately, today is a school day for Ellis - he didn't even seem sad about going - in fact I think he was looking forward to doing something different!
