Ellis had school today so I kinda wondered what we would do without him - he is such a dictator that I'm kinda at a loss when he is not around. Especially now that there are no taxes.
Granita I think would be happy to stay home all day and play with Rowan, but I decided we should go out. Granita had offered to make wontons for us so we headed to Chinatown to find wrappers.
We took the train down - Rowan was charming the other passengers without even trying - a group of men in 40s? were fawning all over him.
Chinatown is not big - I hadn't explored it too extensively in the past - but I think we covered it all today - I think there is only one grocery store as Anita said the other place that I thought was a store was actually a herbalist.
We ended up eating at the same restaurant where we had had our new year's lunch. This was Rowan's second time to charm people. The owner's daughter basically ripped him out of my arms and carted him around the restaurant. He was not a happy Rowan - he got poked and prodded extensively - the daughter liked to compare her arm to his - his was about twice the size. Granted she was very small. It was pretty funny - almost thought I was in Italy again. It was near his nap time, so he wasn't in the best mood - when I went up to pay the bill, he got very worried - "is she leaving me with these deranged women?" I ended up having to nurse him which got some comments - "how old is he?" "you need to feed him instead - he's not getting enough nutrition." - hey - weren't you all just commenting on what a fatty he was?
After lunch Anita picked up the wonton wrappers and we started to head home. We walked back to the CBD and caught the Citycat home. Poor Anita - I'm a slave driver. She mentioned again that she would be happy to just hang out at home. I'm not used to this.
In the afternoon she made her wontons and I read the last of my Guatemalan book that Gaby had sent. Rowan entertained himself while I read - as long as I'm in the room, he seems to do ok. He's mastered putting squares, circles etc into his shapes puzzle. He also seems to know what "let's go" means as when I say it, he heads to the door and grabs his shoes. Amazing. I ask him if he wants a banana and he shakes his head emphatically no. If I ask if he wants an orange he holds out his hand. It's so cool being able to sort of communicate with him.
Ellis was wired when he got home tonight - they had been cooking at school - he says wheat biscuits, but I think it must have been sugar biscuits. He was a maniac - went flying off the couch at one point - lucky he didn't break his neck.
