Friday was an Ellis school day. I stayed home and did taxes part 2 - tax return for our non resident rental income. It was quicker thankfully.
Saturday I didn't get dressed till about 2. It was a beautiful sunny day. I'm trying to get over my Vancouver Anxiety whereby if it's sunny I must get out and do something fun. I was talking to a Portland mum today and she gets the same thing.
We decided to go to the Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary as it is about 10 minutes from our house and when G & G were here, I picked up a family membership. Cyp was not sure if he wanted to go as our first time there was traumatic for him. I think he was happy that I finally wanted to leave the house though so agreed.
When we got there he kept asking - "is this the same place? it seems so much better - look at all the koalas." He kept repeating that over and over again. This time we watched the Birds of Prey show (quite amazing - they fly free and then land on the presenters glove, who then brings them c lose so you can get a good look. I did worry one would take a liking to Rowan and try to eat him - actually, this is probably more of a risk for Ellis as Rowan is probably almost the same weight as Ellis). Ellis was excited to feed the kangaroos and the birds again. Cyp kept being surprised about how much fun it was this time. He kept saying - You could go everyday!
We thought about going to the beach on Sunday, but it just seemed like too much work, so we stayed home again. Boys actually played in our yard a bit. Cyp had to pack anyway. They had some major fireworks at South Bank on Sunday night (we can see them from our house). Turns out it was Buddha's Birthday - who knew?
Monday was yet another holiday (Labour Day) so Ellis didn't have to go to school again. We still have to pay though - crappy. We drove Cyp to the airport - "take the Motorway." said John our GPS.
"why did he say take the remote away?" piped Ellis from the back. "because you've been watching too much TV." said Cyp
I'm slightly jealous that Cyp gets to go home to Vancouver, but I'm not jealous of the plane ride that is for sure.
We dropped Cyp off and then headed home. I tried to tire the kids out by taking them swimming in the chilly pool and then giving them a warm bath, but it didn't work. Ellis was being a rottonoupolous. so I got out the stroller and took them for a long walk - that didn't work either - it just tired me out, but fortunately by the time we got back, it was dinner time - then bed. I made kid dinner - mac and cheese, broccoli and avacado, which Ellis has requested for every night while Cyp is away. Yay - that's easy.
Ellis and I had a bit of a challenge at storytime with Rowan, but we figured it out. Rowan in the middle of the bed with a pile of his own books and Ellis hung onto the edge of the bed precariously (Rowan was a bit wiggly) trying to see the book I was reading to him.
