Granita's Birthday

Granita couldn't decide what she wanted to do for her birthday so I decided for her.... I see where Cyp gets it from :)

As Edie used to say - "someone has to be boss."

So I decided we would go to the Daisy Hill Conservation Area (supposed to be koalas and kangaroos) and then head to lunch at the Lighthouse - where we had gone with mom and dad one day. It's right on the ocean and a nice spot.

Well - we didn't see any kangaroos or koalas at the park, but we did have a nice walk - although our necks were a tad strained from looking up for koalas. Ellis decided he had no energy and couldn't walk, so it was a good thing that all Rowan wants to do these days is practice walking. He does need a bit of an incentive to walk in a straight line though so he found himself a "ba" i.e. rock and we took turns throwing it along the path so he would chase it. We did get to see one lonely koala at the end of our walk as there is a building at Daisy Hill that houses info on koalas.
By the time we were done, it was around one - Rowan crashed almost as soon as we put him in the car and we set off for lunch. I got mad at John as he took us on a crappy route to the restaurant, but we eventually got there. Ellis was melting down but Cyp gave him his iphone and that remedied the situation.
I decided that I may have to start ordering Rowan his own lunch as I think he ate more of Ellis's than Ellis did and I'm not sure it's setting up a good relationship to have one brother beg for food off the other brother.
Granita had Queensland scallops on pee puree and said it was good.
By the time we were done it was 3 so we raced home - Rowan fell asleep again so Granita read her book in the car while he slept.
We three ran in and ran around like maniacs - Cyp and me on dinner and Cyp and Ellis on present wrapping and cake decoration. Phew we made it. We had leftover lamb casserole (but not really leftover) - although I did use up all the rogue veggies from our veggie box. Unfortunately, I found 3 small eggplants shriveling away in our crisper this morning. It was pretty delicious and even Ellis ate it - but that was probably because he was envisioning the cake he decorated.

Oh - Granita got to open her presents before dinner - she tried to feign "surprised" but she knew as Ellis kept telling her the night before and every time he remembered about the chocolate we got her at Woolies. She was in chocolate heaven. "it's like big bars of gold." she said. Note that I finally got a picture of her smiling.

The cake had the kids whirring around a bit, but bath sort of settled them down plus I think the freezing temperature saps a bit of their energy. At least it is good for something.
