Ellis and Rowan

Ellis and Rowan have both changed a fair bit lately. I think Ellis has gotten taller and plus he's different to talk to. I guess I haven't really gotten the chance to talk to him much lately - everything up till now has been more of a negotiation. When Rowan naps these days, I can actually sit and play with Ellis for a bit. I can't remember any of the things he says - but he seems oddly aware of things going on around him. I got my hair cut on Friday and he was really the only person that noticed when I went to pick him up at daycare. The first thing he said was "you got your haircut. It looks funny." Cyp didn't really notice it and neither did his teacher or anyone else. The person who cut it completely straightened it - I really did look different and I expected people to say - "hey - who are you and where are you taking Ellis." but nobody else said anything.

Ellis also creates the most hilarious Miis on the Wii. One of his Miis is super tall, one is named Fig (and wears glasses) and one looks like a very tough woman with a beard. He picks a Mii depending on his mood - watching him create one is quite something. He goes in and selects the face shape, eye colour, nose and lip shape etc. He is quite methodical. The way the Wii works, it uses the created characters as supporting characters in some of the games. So there is a snowball fight game - Ellis refuses to throw snowballs at the Miis he has created as they are "him" Unfortunately, he also seems to like boxing the best. We tried to steer him away from that one, but he keeps going back on his own. I have learned more about the Wii from watching him play - it is amazing the things he finds. It is also funny watching him practice his golf game. I try to limit his Wii playing - at first he would have tantrums so Cyp and I explained that if the Wii led to tantrums he couldn't play. Since that message got through he is actually fairly good at turning it off when we ask him too. He also hands over the controller so I can play too and seems to enjoy watching others play.

He seems to also like his new school. On Friday they made igloos using ice and he is often excited to tell us what he did during the day.

As Ellis becomes happier and easier to deal with, Rowan is getting to be more of a challenge. He is no longer the bucket baby that you can lug everywhere and just plunk down. He can now follow (and he's super fast too) me all over the house - stand up, tug at my clothes and whine. He desperately wants to play with Ellis so is always trying to get into Ellis's room. Ellis slams the door - but then finds himself trapped as he cannot reach the door handle. I am essentially a referee these days. Ellis often finds he cannot play with his favourite toys (small lego, marbles, puzzles) as Rowan comes along and tries to grab and shove everything into his mouth. He is still very good, but he now requires entertaining. This is partially why the blog is slowing down. Rowan will not let me blog. He comes over to where I'm sitting, hauls himself up and starts saying MAMAMAMAMAAAAAAA. He does not like having to compete for attention with the computer.

  1. Well, I'm afraid that this comment may be so late that it hardly counts but... nice haircut! I like it!
