Swim Lesson Day

Today we had our first swim lesson and thankfully Cyp scheduled them for 11:00 am - I should be able to get out of the house by then. It did flash through my brain that was also Rowan's nap time but oh well.

I actually managed to get Rowan to nap at 9:30 so things were good. I played with Ellis - we got ready, generally, everything went smoothly.

The pool is at the Uni and they have a separate covered pool for the kiddies. Ellis's teacher was Trudy (oh dear - Ellis insists she is a man so we are going to have to work on that) and Rowan and I had Gerryann.

From what I could see of Ellis - he seemed to be doing well. When I looked over, he was floating on his back with a frog on his belly. Another time he was kicking with a kickboard. Rowan meanwhile was the most uncooperative he's ever been. He eyed everyone with quite a bit of suspicion and was quite put out and not being able to just putter around the pool as he pleased. We had to do pool slides into the pool so that they learn how to get in properly and then grab on with "monkey hands" Rowan would basically push my hands away and throw himself in. He did ok with floating and he even got pushed to me underwater and didn't seem to mind. Gerryann thought he was terrific. She was impressed with his strength and coordination as he is so huge and not yet one. I liked her too - she is originally American - quite a character, sings through the entire lesson and was quite surprised when I new the words to "Fly me to the Moon and let me swing upon the stars...." I think I'm going to like swimming lessons.

Thankfully Cyp met us near the end of the lesson as I wasn't sure how I was going to cope with the two kids and I hadn't brought the stroller for some reason. Ellis was really happy. On the way home he said:

"mommy, I can SWIM now."

"uh, I don't think you can swim after one lesson - we're going to keep going."

"no mommy, I can."

"can you float yet?"

"well, no, I guess you're right..."

Major shockorama! He agreed with me!

We basically did nothing the rest of the afternoon. Oh wait, not nothing. I read Ellis his entire collection of Golden Books (about 25) while Rowan slept. I had no voice left by the time Cyp got home but it did pass the time and Ellis didn't really noticed when I catnapped in between sentences.

Hannah and Elle (our trusty babysitters) came by around 7. They got lost on the way and I had to give them directions - how's that?! I am getting good at navigating our neighborhood. We went for Thai. I must say, the food I've eaten here has kicked butt over Vancouver restaurants. I'd say it was some of the best Thai I've had. When we got our bill we were pleasantly surprised too. $52 (tax and tip included) for appies, two drinks, two mains (one at a hansome price as noted in menu) and rice at one of the top rated Thai restaurants. Oops - they forgot to charge us for one main. Still not bad though and we being honest Canadians pointed out their error. It is also BYO (visitors take note again) but we didn't take a bottle as otherwise we'd be tempted to drink it and I was driving.

When we got home Hannah said that Ellis had had an accident on the Wii. Oh no! Was he hurt? No, an accident. He wee'd. He wee'd on the wii. heh. In fact, he told her - "Uh, oh - I started to wee!" Seems like he's picked up some Australianisms.

At some point Ellis made his way into our bed during the night. It's a conspiracy I tell you. Cyp is a softy and feels bad for him. He's going to be feeling worse with grumpy mummy that is for sure. That said, the boys looked very sweet lying there this morning all cuddled up together. When Ellis woke up he said.

"mummy, I gave you a pat." (he had too, on my back in the middle of the night).

"and you didnt' even ask."

Yes, it was a very nice pat and almost made up for the fact that I was sandwiched between the two kids for the better part of the night.
