Now that we've Finally Moved we can be Tourists Again

Although it does take us a while to get going in the morning.

Last night it poured. Poured! The most rain in February in over a hundred years and in one day at that. It sounds quite loud on our metal roof. At one point I woke up because there was flashing in my eyes - and then BOOM! Thunder. I'm surprised our house wasn't hit - it seemed pretty close.

When we woke up this morning, Cyp said to go check out the pool. There was our friendly neighborhood cane toad (we think) taking a swim. Cyp rescued him but we were later told we should have put him in a bag and into the freezer (the most humane way to kill him). Ugh. Aside from Mr. Toad, we also noted that our pool is on the point of overflowing. Hmm.

We puttered around all morning humming and hawing about what we should do - now that we have to drive to places like the GOMA and Southbank beach we don't feel like going (how sad really). So Cyp looked in our Brisbane walks book and found a walk out on the coast. The boys put on their new Quatchi shirts (courtesy of aunty Tracey) and we slowly headed out. The picture of Ellis running away is him posing in his new shirt for a picture.
We hit Supercheap Auto on the way (Aussie Canuck Tire) and Cyp managed to fix the fuse in our car so now our lighter works - hooray! Now we can plug the GPS in and go for long trips again.
The drive to Shorncliffe was nice - I think I like the Sunshine Coast better than the Gold Coast and it didn't take long to get there. Of course before we set out on our walk we had to fuel up at the fish and chip shop. $23 for the pile that you see.
We then started our walk and didn't get far before Ellis commented that he had to pee. Of course. That was soon forgotten though when he saw a fantastic playground. He ran down to it and then I had to drag him away to go pee.
It was one of those stainless steel toilets without a seat and he hasn't yet learned the art of stand up peeing so I decided to crouch him over the toilet. Of course we got pee everywhere - and I got the standard

"you're a bad mummy"

comment again.

We headed back to the playground where we found an extremely grumpy Cyp, who was being eaten alive by mozzies. I told him to gather up Ellis (who had already scampered) and we could head to the pier where the breeze would probably keep the mozzies away. Cyp attempted to get Ellis to leave, but had no success so came over even more grumpy. So I just said "let's leave" the old trick mom used to pull on us and pretty soon, Ellis was chasing after us. It works well for now.

The pier was mozzy free but now Rowan was unhappy being trapped back in the stroller after tasting freedom. So I put him down and he proceeded to crawl to every hole and stick his finger down it. This is what he likes to do - he especially likes drains. I do like him doing this, especially after reading about all the poisonous bugs that can get you here.

We eventually made it to the middle of the pier where we encountered some elderly ladies that were on their way back already.

"look at him - he's making progress....ah but he looks a bit winded - I think he'd be a good contestant for the biggest loser (a popular show here)" He was looking rather chubb today.

We continued on our walk (as we hadn't really made much progress ourselves). I hadn't packed Phil and Ted today (as frankly, I don't really like it). I had brought Ellis's run bike, but of course he didn't want to bring it. So - it ended up being a fight over Bob. I tried Rowan in the sling, but he is not a sling baby so I tried Ellis. They weigh about the same.... We didn't last very long.

I eventually got Ellis excited about checking for crabs on the beach and we made it that far. We let the kids get good and filthy (Rowan loved it) and then it was time to go as it looked like rain was coming again. We had walked quite far and it was pretty darn painful on the way back with Ellis stopping and picking up every stick, noting every leaf, ant and thing on the path. I eventually turned to Cyp and said "why don't you run get the car."

So... he passed off everything to me and walked about 5 feet. Then he stopped to check his iphone. "WHAT ARE YOU DOING?" I yelled.

"finding a shortcut, OKAY!" and off he ran. Grumble - he was in the right this time. He did find a shortcut. I thought he was checking his mail again.

He found us with the car not too much longer (we hadn't progressed far) and we scrambled into the car and drove home.

Thank goodness we had leftovers for dinner tonight. YAY!
