Rowan's instructor is great (I haven't really gotten to know Ellis's - but she seems good too). Geriann is originally from Pennsylvania - she is half African American. I found out a lot about her life - quite interesting. The most exciting thing though is that she is going to be on Australia's got Talent. She is a singer - she lays down her own tracks and layers her voice over and over again so that it sounds like a 100 person choir is singing. I'm curious to see it. She is super excited as she doesn't care if she wins - she just sees it as free advertising so she can book more gigs. She LOVES Australia and will never go back to the US. Interesting. Makes me appreciate it here a bit more. I really miss the Vancouver climate and topography though. I long to be cool - I think when winter hits though I will change my mind about that as houses are not heated here (or even insulated - we can see through our floors and there is about a one inch gap above and below most of our doors). So - I believe you alternate between being too hot to too cold.
I had to wake Rowan up for his lesson - he was not happy and basically was very uncooperative. He basically clung to me the entire lesson. When I looked over to Ellis, he seemed to be doing well. When he got out of the pool he was looking for Cyp, but Cyp was at a faculty retreat so couldn't make it. Ellis looked rather disappointed.
We drove home and Ellis played Wii. He took a little break at one point but then wanted to play Kidpix. I was like - No, you've played too much Wii today.
"Kidpix is not the Wii!"
Surprisingly I just continued to say no, so he went and played in his room. It was quite amazing. Cyp came home late - I had already fed the kids and we went out for dinner to a Greek place that Cyp has been dying to go to. I was fairly exhausted (and Ellis looked like a raccoon, but he just keeps going) but was still glad to escape. Rowan sees the girls walk in and immediately starts to cry. As we left he was madly crawling for the front door and then clinging to the screen wailing as we left. Poor girls. Usually when we get home, one of them is stuck to the couch with a sleeping Rowan.
We headed to the West End - really starting to understand this city now. The restaurant was dead when we got there, yet they stuck us by the back door facing the wall. Interesting. It was BYO and only BYO so Cyp went next door to pick up a bottle of wine. I had been planning on just getting a glass, but that wasn't an option. We were very well behaved though and poured two small glasses and put the cap back on. I haven't seen any roadblocks here (not like in Melbourne) but it's just not worth it. I had lamb, way too salty and Cyp had baby octopus (poor baby octopus). His dinner was overcooked. For dessert we split a torta, which was essentially tiramisu. It came in a take away container (it was huge) so it was easy to pack up the leftovers (which I ate as soon as we got home anyway).
I texted the sitters to see how they were doing - both kids were asleep. We felt bad going back home right away - so we decided to go for a walk at the Kangaroo Point Parklands - this was the park opening we went to a couple of weeks ago. Wow - so much nicer at night. It was cool and breezy! There were about a million people out jogging and doing stairs up and down the cliffs. There were also a number of rock climbers. It does seem that people here do wait until the sun goes down to go out - I hadn't really noticed before. Makes sense.
After that, we still had time to kill (we want to keep our sitters happy so try to stay out at least 3 hours - otherwise, it's not really worth their while) so we drove up Mount Cootha. This is essentially the mountain in our backyard. It gives off a lot of heat during the day - you can feel the heat waves hitting you if you face the mountain from our front yard. We got to the top - lots of tourists - took a look and I think we both thought - wow, not much to Brisbane and it's so flat. I miss the mountains. Cyp used his Iphone to try to figure out the constellations (this is the first time I thought to look and see if I could see a difference). They have the Southern Cross down here - according to Cyp - the stars on the Aussie flag are the Southern Cross - you can only see it down here. That was kinda cool.
We headed home and found Elle trapped on the couch with Rowan sprawled on her. She hadn't moved since I had texted her two hours earlier. I can never last that long!
