Well, I'm slowly reverting to my old lifestyle of trying to sort clutter and not doing anything active. I can feel the fat coming back. I fear I will never walk anywhere from our house on the hill. At least we see to go swimming every night after dinner. However, I mostly just stand there holding Rowan, so I don't think that counts. Must get some pics of Ellis being a swim maniac.
On Saturday we didn't do much - I got Cyp to straighten wrapping paper (from our move). We decided we should keep our boxes as we will likely be moving at least once while we are here. As easy as it would be to call up the movers and ask them to come cart all the boxes away, I know I would regret it in a year when I have to buy more boxes. So slowly we are breaking down the boxes.
I encountered a spider yesterday - that kinda slowed me down. Don't really feel like sorting the stacks of paper anymore....
We managed to get most of our stuff put away (as noted) but we don't really have office furniture (as I'd given away all our file cabinets, shelves etc cause we didn't need them in Vancouver). So we made the trek to Freedom - something along the lines of Pottery Barn maybe? and Ikea. As we were driving into the Ikea parking lot Ellis said "are we going to the airport?" Sure felt like it.
It was a madhouse there. It seems everyone in Brisbane was at Ikea - so this is where everybody is. We couldn't bring ourselves to spend $1000 on the Effectiv filing cabinet, so we got a toilet brush, dish brush and broom and dustpan. Spent $6. Yah - that was an effective use of time. The one bright spot was when Ellis suddenly clutched his pants and said "I HAVE TO PEE!" I yelled to Cyp "FOLLOW ME!" and took off with Ellis running. Amazingly, we found a toilet fairly nearby and accident was averted.
We all had the requisite $1 hotdog and headed home.
On Sunday it poured all day. It almost felt like a gray overcast Vancouver day and I missed having TV so I sent Cyp out to get one. I read stories to the boys and we watched the rain come in sideways on our porch. I don't know if it has cooled down in Brisbane, but we don't seem to sweat in our house as much as we did in the apartment. It is great.
On Monday it was a school day again (Ellis just said to me today - "I like my new school mummy - can I go everyday?") Well - there goes that behaviour modifying threat where I tell him I'm going to go back to work if he continues to be uncooperative.
I tried to find a better route to the Uni, but we ended up doing a tour of the neighbouring suburbs and I got progressively grumpier. It is not easy figuring out where to go to get places here. I think people basically stick to their own suburb. Our babysitter, who lives about 4 k away in Enoggera, has never been to Toowong. Probably can't find it.
Rowan and I sorted paper, hung pictures and made dinner and then it was time to go back to get Ellis and Cyp. Ellis had another great day. The teachers are very impressed with him. They seem to do more at this school, or I'm just paying better attention, for example they painted their feet to make something for their shoe cupboard and on Friday he came home with a shnazzy crown and wand.
Today we did nothing and went slowly more insane. We couldn't leave the house as the TV was coming. Cyp came home around 2 pm to herald the arrival of the TV so I decided the boys and I could head out on an adventure. I managed to get the chariot put together and then we walked to the park. Hah.
I walked down one mountain only to have to walk up the other side. I must put the emergency strap on the chariot as it was tough holding onto it. I figured it would be easier to push than Phil and Ted. We found a park - it's actually really close (see pics) if only we didn't live in the Himalayas. If I take them there every day, then I will be fit.
On the way home we walked by a house that had about 20 huge spiders hanging between the hedge and the power lines. I think they were orb weavers. They were huge - tried to get a picture but didn't work on the iphone. ugh. Plus some jumping spider tried to attack me at the park. It was small, but I don't know - the spiders are coming out the woodwork.
The TV came at dinner - Ellis was super excited. "We have a TV! I want to play Wii"
Instead we went for our requisite swim. Cyp is doing Wii Yoga as I type.
